Carnivale Fabric Samples

Since QT Fabrics released my Carnivale Fabric collection I have been totally amazed by the products that people are making from the fabric.  I have seen quilts, table runners, a window valence and tons of great bags.  I just received a photo of a chair covered in the Carnivale fabric that is absolutely stunning!  If you missed them, I have been posting the photos on my Facebook page if you want head over there and take a look at them there.

Recently my mother-in-law, Jan made several products for me from the fabric.  This past weekend I was finally able to see them and I thought I would take this opportunity to share them with you.

The first product is a set of four placemats with a larger center mat.

The front is created from the paisley design and the multicolor bubble design.  The backside is the border with black background design.

The next product is a bag.

The outside of the bag is the main Carnivale fabric and the multicolor bubble with black background design.  The separation between the two fabrics is a large pocket.

Inside the bag are lots of little pockets.

The inside and all the pockets are made from the multi-color bubble with white background designs.

This bag is going be great for when I travel.  I am going to have lots of room to carry all those things that I think I just absolutely must take with me.

Jan also made me a second bag.  When I go anywhere I always take with me a book bag.  This bag needed to be a taller bag so I can carry my sketch book along with my other notebooks and books that I work with.

This bag may not mean much to anybody else, but to me it is super special!  This has strips of all the fabrics that are in the Carnivale Fabric Line.  Then the best part is what is in-between the stripes of fabric, it is the salvage of the fabric.  Now the salvage may not seem like a big deal to most people, but the salvage is where my name is.

After years and years of hard work, this is my first fabric line and to see my name printed on the fabric is truly a dream come true! Image: Inside of Carnivale Book Bag

The inside of the bag is also the multi-color white dot design.

I want to thank everyone that has sent me photos of the products that you have made.  I have truly enjoy seeing each and everyone of them and I am not happy to share my own photos with you!

Find Your Joy

Imaqe: Find Your Joy

Spring has arrived and all the flowers and trees are in bloom.  Our landscapes are turning from drab brown to luscious greens accented with pops of colors from all the beautiful flowers in bloom.

This has been a super exciting time for me.  On the heels of my Carnivale fabric collection being release and then having a second printing, Lowes Home Improvement has just release a garden flag with my artwork “Find Your Joy”.

This was one of my first mixed media pieces of art and one that I have always loved.  I was delighted when Lowes wanted to create a garden flag.

Image: Find Your Joy Garden Flag

The flag turned out to be such a beauty!  They created a premium flag by adding embroidery applique around the large leaves and bottom purple flower.

Now you can add a positive reminder to your lawn or garden with gorgeous flag that will remind you to “Find You Joy”.  It is important for us to all know what brings us joy.  It is through that joy that we each find our true happiness.

Carnivale Fabric Collection

Image: Carnival Collection Sampler

There is nothing more exciting to me than to see my artwork reproduced on physical products and this one has been particularly exciting for me.  In the fall of last year QT Fabrics created this fabulous fabric collection from my artwork.  It is called “Carnivale”.  This Carnivale Fabric Collection has truly exceeded all of my expectations!  The fabric was produced in October and shipped to stores in November.  By January QT Fabrics was already scheduling a second printing to meet the demand for the fabric.

It has been such a joy working with QT Fabrics!  Everyone there has been so amazing and such a delight.  Creative Manager – Tiffany Meredith Jawor-Smith said, “QT is thrilled with the response to the colorful and vibrant Carnivale collection!  Color is a universal language for quilters, and there are so many wonderful stores to be told – we look forward to seeing inspired projects developed and shared for years to come.”  I totally agree with Tiffany!

Image: Main Carnivale Design

The main design of the collection is a fabulous flowing combination of my whimsical doodle flowers and shapes surrounded by delightful multi-color bubble dots in various sizes.  This main design comes in either a black background or white background.  This is the most popular design in the collection.

Image: Multi-color Carnival Dot

The second most popular design in the collection is the multi-color bubble dot design.  Like the main design this bubble dot design comes in either a black background or white background.

There is a total 14 fabric in all in the collection.

The part that I have enjoyed the most about the collection is seeing what everyone is making with the fabric.  Here are a few photographs that have been sent to me from others of items they have made with the fabric.

Judi Duncan made these pencil bags (of which I could use for a gillion different things).

Kim Benson made this large bag that would be great for carrying everything you need.  Kim has also made a bottle up bag.

And Stacey Maxwell will always have a festive table when she uses her colorful napkins and table runners.

I want to say thank you to each of these ladies for sharing the lovely work with me and giving me permission to share the photographs with you.

The second printing of Carnivale is scheduled to be shipped to stores the middle of April.  Hopefully these pictures will give you some ideas of what you can made from the Carnivale Collection.

If you have made something from the Carnivale Fabric Collection that you would like to share with us, we would love to see what you have made.  Please leave a photograph in comments below so that we can all enjoy it.

Just Give It A Try

Image: Bella - Watercolor

How many times have you wanted to do something and immediately your mind starts to create a lengthy and sometimes elaborate list of all the reason why you shouldn’t or can’t do it?  We have all been there more times than we can count.  I can’t help but wonder why we do this.  Are we just beating others to the punch and telling ourselves all the reasons why we shouldn’t or can’t do something before we give others a chance to do it for us or are we just conditioned to immediately go to the negative.  There comes a point where we just have to stop all of this craziness and just give it a try.

The time that I see this happen the most is when it comes to people trying to reach for their dreams, including myself.  First, I would have the dream starting with “I want…” immediately followed by the litany of excuses of why I shouldn’t or couldn’t.  I was driving myself crazy.  The time I was wasting by going through this was enormous.  I knew that I had to figure out a way to turn this around.

Image: Bella - Mixed Media Then finally the way I turned this around was I allowed myself to continue to make the typical list of negatives, yet every time I thought of a reason why I shouldn’t or couldn’t do something I would turn the excuse from a statement into a question.  For example, if my excuse was “I can’t afford to….” I would write down the question “How can I get enough money to…?” Or, I would change the excuse “I don’t know how to…” into the question “How can I learn how to….?”  Taking this a step further, any time someone else would tell me why I shouldn’t or couldn’t do something I would respond to them with a question of “How can I….?”  Don’t expect an answer, but this is another question that you can add to your list.

After a while you will have a list of questions that are actually your “to-do” list.  If you methodically set out answer all your questions you will soon find yourself on the path to having what you want.  It is through this list of questions that you are actually trying to reach your goal.  Each time you find an answer to a question that will confirm for you that you are trying.  Just sticking to the excuses shows that you aren’t really even trying.

Image: "Bella" Affirmation What can you try today that will get you closer to your dream or your goal?  Do you need to find a new question to ask yourself?  Keep telling yourself that everyday you will try something new and watch how much faster you reach your dream or your goal.

Do You Have Obstacles or Adventure?

Image: Watercolor Doodle Flowers - BeamingThere are times in everyone’s life when things don’t go as smoothly as we would like.  Yet, how many times do we get caught up in an obstacle and look at it as a hardship or burden.  Why is it so difficult to look at an obstacle as adventure and just have fun with it instead of fretting, worrying and trying to change it?

Tim works as a construction superintendent for general contractors.  His specialty is building apartment complexes.  With this line of work it means that the project doesn’t come to him, he goes to the project.  Some project last almost a year, but for most of his projects he is only there a few months, and in some cases, just weeks.  At one point, over a seven year period we moved 26 times.  That includes packing, loading furniture and boxes into a U-Haul, driving to the new location, unloading and unpacking.  After so many moves I can say that I am a master packer and Tim is a master loader.

Image: Mixed Media "Beaming" Doodle Flowers A lot of people would see this as a nightmare way of life, (I know because they have told me so many times).  For us we have loved it.  We have lived in Arkansas, Nevada, Arizona, Louisiana and Texas.  Every time Tim would get a new project we both would get so excited because we knew that it was going to be a new adventure.

Each time not only would Tim’s project be different, but the town and everything around us would be different.  We were able to experience new climates, new cultures, not to mention new stores and new restaurants.  We learned that every place has its own unique personality and getting to know it all was so much fun.

Image - Affirmation featuring "Beaming" doodle flowers.

What in your life do you do that you see as an obstacle?  How can you change the way you look at it so that you can turn it into an adventure?  Use this affirmation to help you turn around your thinking.

Always Appreciate Those Around You

Image: Flowers in Cup with watercolor background.

I once worked with a girl that was as chronic complainer. She also picked fights with the others in the office.

In the beginning she was cute and charming, but she quickly became  very hard  to be around. However, she was very good at her job. Her job was vital to the company, and without her doing her job as well as she did, my job would have been much more difficult.

Image: Flowers in Cup with Mixed Media Background

I had to work to find a way to deal with the high energy and emotional draining that I had to go through with her. The way I found that I could deal with the situation was by appreciating what she did in her work. It is amazing what you can tolerate from some people when you learn to appreciate something about them.

If you have someone in your life that you find difficult to be around, take some time and find some good about that person,.

once you find the good, focus on it and soon you will see your entire relationship with them change for the better.

Remembering that there is something good in everything and everyone, use this affirmation to help yourself to stay aware of appreciating at least one good thing about all those around you.

Confidence Is Silent

Image: "Amazing" doodle flower with watercolor background

We have all know that one person, be it male or female, that is constantly talking about all their accomplishments. They tell us all about the famous person they have met or done business with. If you are paying really close attention you will notice that while they are telling their stories the speak just a little louder than normal so that everyone can clearly hear what they have to say. Although they have nothing to show for their accomplishments, they are the first to tell you what you should do.

Or, when you are talking about something that you have done or accomplished they have to tell you something similar that they done or accomplished. Unfortunately, I know several people like this and it really makes me sad. I used to think that people did this because they were just trying to relate to what I was saying by injecting their own experience. I have since figured out that it is just their insecurities and their need to feel accepted or validated in some way.

Image: "Amazing" doodle flower with mixed media backgroun

On the other hand, I have met people that are very successful with scores of accomplishments, yet you will never hear them talk about them. They don’t go on and on about who they know or what they have done. They simply go about their business without any fanfare or boasting.

What is the difference between these two people? It is simply confidence. People that are confident in what they are doing don’t feel the need to boast or brag about it. Yet people that are insecure feel that they need to compensate for their lack of confidence by boasting and bragging in attempt to make themselves feel more important.

We are all equally as important as the next guy and there is no reason for anyone to feel that they are any more or less important. Once someone understands that and gets to the point that they really believe it then their confidence will begin to grow.

If you don’t feel confident in yourself, here is a confidence affirmation that I hope you will read every day until you feel confident and your need to compete with others diminishes.

Christmas Candy Canes and Vines

I know we just finished Halloween and we haven’t even gotten to Thanksgiving yet, but that doesn’t mean we aren’t thinking about Christmas yet! For me, being a lover of the color red, when I think of Christmas, candy canes always pop into my head right away. This year I have created a new Christmas design called Christmas Candy Canes and Vines.

Image: Close up of Christmas Candy Canes

My usually color pallet is a bold, bright array of tropical colors filled with shades of pink, coral and teal. In the past Christmas hasn’t stopped me from using that same color pallet. I have never really been known to be one to stick to the rules when it comes to my art. But this year I thought I would do something a little different for me. Yes, I followed the rules and stuck to the traditional red and green colors.

This year we are going back to the traditional red and green. With our green Christmas tree, it is going to be loaded with tons of red ribbons among the ornaments and of course a load of candy canes to grab when you walk by.

Christmas Candy Canes and Vines

Christmas Candy Canes and Vines is a delightful illustration that features five beautiful red and white candy canes is various sizes. Each candy cane is wrapped in swirling vines of green leaves as if they are growing from field of green grass giving the lovely design a tradition Christmas color palette. The candy canes are over a soft blue watercolor wash background and surrounded by a double red line border.

I have created a variety of Christmas products using this design and they can be found in my Debi Payne Designs Zazzle store. It’s not too late to order your cards and receive them in time to send out before Christmas to your friends and family.

Be Someone That Makes You Happy

It seems like no matter where I look, I see so many people that seem so unhappy. I see people that are angry, bitter, jealous, and sometimes just downright mean, but happy people are hard to find. Why not be someone that make you happy? So many people say if they could meet that perfect mate that you would happy. Or if they had this or that, then they would be happy. They just don’t realize that the happy they are looking for is inside them. That is where happy resides and that is really the only true, long-lasting happy that anyone needs.

Image: Be Someone That makes You Happy

Yes, you really can make yourself happy without any help from anybody else or anything else. The first place to start making yourself happy is to start with a positive attitude. The things that you want someone else to say to you, say them to yourself. Get rid of any negative thoughts and definitely don’t actually say those things out loud, to yourself or anybody else.

If you start with just that one thing, in time you will see that you really can be someone that makes you happy!

Celebration Doodle Flower

Image: Celebration Doodle Flowers

Celebration Doodle Flowers is a fun original painting created by Debi Payne Designs featuring three whimsical long stem, tear drop shaped doodle flowers. The flowers are in bright colors of yellow, teal, purple and pink with green stems and leaves. The flowers are accented with multiple sketchy lines to give this sweet hand drawn design a sketched effect.

I have created products using this delightful design for both my Debi Payne Designs and Inspiration Station stores on Zazzle.

In Debi Payne Designs I have added a purple watercolor background where you can personalize your product by adding your name or any text that you choose.

Tears for Las Vegas

Today my heart is so sad, as I woke up this morning to hear the news about the shooting in Las Vegas. Today there are many tears for Las Vegas. A place that so many love is a place of sadness today.

I usually don’t write about current events or any of the craziness that is going on in the world today. I choose not to focus on negativity, however this one is so close to my heart, I can’t help myself. Today, this one is personal to me!

Las Vegas is so very near and dear to my heart. Tim and I lived in Las Vegas for eight years from 2006 to 2015. Many people go to Vegas for vacations, conventions, weddings or just a quickie weekend trip. One day Tim asked me why I liked living in Vegas. I had two reasons, (1) The energy. No matter where we went there always seemed to be such a high energy and the people were always so happy. And (2) when we lived in Las Vegas I felt like I was somebody important. I don’t have any particular reasons for having those feelings, and I can’t really explain the, but that is how I felt.

So many people think of Las Vegas and they immediately think about the gambling. Yes, that is there, (and that can be fun), but there is so, so much more to Vegas and unless you actually live there I don’t know if you can understand it. Almost everyone is from somewhere else, yet nobody is ever treated like an ‘outsider’ and everyone is welcomed.

Image: Tim & Debi Wedding Photo

In 2006 Tim and I were married at the Rio in Las Vegas. That was and still is the best day of my life!

Image: Tim & Debi in Las Vegas

Las Vegas is where my art career really got started. While we lived there my artwork was in three different galleries. It is also the time when in 2011 the economy hit rock bottom and many of the art galleries went out of business. Yet through that event, my art took at different direction which led me to where I am today.

We no longer live in Las Vegas, but a part of us will always be there. Yet, having lived there I can tell you that these people are so strong. They are survivors and they will overcome this.

My heart and prayers are with all those in Vegas and all those impacted by this horrific event. Be strong! You are still Fabulous!
