Dare to Dream – Artist Spotlight

You may (or may not) have noticed that last month I took a bit of a “blog break”. It wasn’t really intentional on my part, it was just that I was involved in so many different projects all at once that my blogging time just seemed to have vanished in thin air.

One of the things that has happened during this time is the honor that was bestowed on me when Art Licensing Show featured me in their blog in the artist spotlight article. This is a lovely article with more on my background and a little about how I got to where I am today. If you would like to read the article, click here.

Along with all the work I have been doing on my art licensing, I have also been working on my mission and all that consist of. As with any business, mine is always changing and evolving as it grows. Over the next few weeks and months you will probably be seeing some changes to my website along with all the things attached to it.

Something else that is going through some major renovations is my Debi Payne Designs Zazzle Stores. I have been rearranging products, cleaning out old designs and adding new product designs. I will be talking more about this in the future.

Although there are many changes in progress, with even more to come soon, I am happy to say that the only change in my message is that it is becoming even stronger.

Image: Affirming a positive life day by deyIt seems like when I start thinking about how long my journey has been, I realize that it has just begun. I have experienced many bumps and bruises along with several stall outs and even a couple very ungraceful falls flat on my face. But each time I have managed to somehow pick myself up, dust myself off and take another step forward.

The future is looking very bright for Debi Payne Designs and I hope you will continue to join me on this fabulous, crazy, wild journey and hopefully I will be able to shed a little bit of sunshine on your day.

Journal Time

For those who like to write their worries away, I have created two new journal books called “Journal Time – Volume One”.

The first version of Journal Time is a full color version.

Journal Time - Volume One - Full Color by Debi Payne Designs

The full color version of “Journal Time – Volume One” consist of an image and lines on each page. They are printed on both front and back of each page to give as much writing space as possible.

2-pg Spread - Color

The second version of the book was created for all those that like to color. That version is called “Journal Time – Volume One – Journal & Coloring Book”.

This version is printed in black and white so you can color in the design to clear your mind and then start writing your thoughts.

Again the pages are printed on both sides of the page. (I suggest you use color pencils or crayons to color with so you don’t have to deal with bleed-through onto the next page.)

2-pg Spread - B&W

Each version is a handy journal size of 6″ x 9″.   Both book versions consist of 120 journal pages to write your thoughts away.

Sample Writing Pages

Each book has a name block page so you can personalize your book by adding your name.

Sample Name Plate Pages

Here is a sample of the designs found in the book in both black and white (from the coloring book) and full color.

Design Samples

There is a total of six different designs that repeat throughout each book. In the color book version, you can change the colors each time to make each design different. In the full color version each design has two different color versions to give a total of 12 different variations.

You can find these books, as well as all the other Debi Payne Designs books on Amazon by clicking here.

"Alphadoodles" Front Cover

“Alphadoodles” Adult Coloring Book by Debi Payne of Debi Payne Designs

Alphadoodles is a combination of doodle flowers, shapes and patterns which have been hand drawn to form each of the twenty-six uppercase letters of the alphabet.

A-Closeup

When you have finished coloring a letter, you can cut the page out of the book and either frame the page or use it in a craft project.

Z-Closeup

Alphadoodles is printed on large 8-1/2 x 11 high quality, 60 pound paper using only one side of each page.  If using markers or pens, you may want to place a piece of paper or cardstock behind the page your are working on to prevent bleed-through onto the next page design.

Just a Few More Quotes and Sayings

I have just a few more quotes and sayings that will get me caught up.

"Love Yourself" by Debi Payne of Debi Payne Designs

“Love Yourself” by Debi Payne of Debi Payne Designs

This doesn’t mean that you can’t put God or your family before yourself.  And it isn’t saying that you can’t love God or your children more than yourself.  This is very simply saying that if you don’t know HOW to love yourself, you can’t really love somebody else.

"Life of Possibilities" by Debi Payne of Debi Payne Designs

“Life of Possibilities” by Debi Payne of Debi Payne Designs

Life is so full of possibilities!  I don’t know about you, but when I think of all the possibilities that are out there for me, I get as excited as a little kid in a swimming pool on a hot summer day!

"Hidden Blessings" by Debi Payne of Debi Payne Designs

“Hidden Blessings” by Debi Payne of Debi Payne Designs

Some days I know it may feel like blessings are playing a game of hide-and-seek with you.  But trust me, they are there.  Some days you just have to look a little bit harder to find them.

"Everything Happens" by Debi Payne of Debi Payne Designs

“Everything Happens” by Debi Payne of Debi Payne Designs

Everything really does happen for a reason, both good and bad.  It is always easy to say “Thank You” for the good things that happen.  We all need to learn to say “Thank You” more for the bad things that happen, because the bad things happen for a reason just as much as the good things.

More Quotes & Sayings

Here are a few more quotes and saying that I have gotten behind in posting.

"Be Open To Whatever" by Debi Payne of Debi Payne Designs

“Be Open To Whatever” by Debi Payne of Debi Payne Designs

If you don’t keep yourself more open to whatever comes your way, you very well be missing some amazing opportunities.

"One Day At A Time" by Debi Payne of Debi Payne Designs

“One Day At A Time” by Debi Payne of Debi Payne Designs

Sometime people spend so much time looking at the future that they are missing the opportunities that are happening for them today.  When actually it is the opportunities that you see in this day that will take you to the future that you are wanting.

"Wish Dream Do" by Debi Payne of Debi Payne Designs

“Wish Dream Do” by Debi Payne of Debi Payne Designs

For anything that you want or want to do, you must first see it in your mind before you can have it in reality.

"Make Wrong Right" by Debi Payne of Debi Payne Designs

“Make Wrong Right” by Debi Payne of Debi Payne Designs

If there is something in your life that doesn’t feel right to you, you are the only one that can change it.  If you are waiting for somebody else to make things right for you, you may be waiting for a really long time!  Only you can make the wrong things right.

"Don't Take Yourself Too Seriously" by Debi Payne of Debi Payne Designs

“Don’t Take Yourself Too Seriously” by Debi Payne of Debi Payne Designs

Sometimes we all get so wrapped up in our own thoughts, and we sometimes seem to overthink things to death.  Perhaps if we could learn to take things a little lighter and even learn to laugh at ourselves more, we just might find ourselves happier and much more at ease.

Quotes & Saying

Over the next couple of weeks I am going to try to get caught up with the quotes and sayings that I have fallen behind in posting.

"Say Less Mean More" by Debi Payne of Debi Payne Designs

“Say Less Mean More” by Debi Payne of Debi Payne Designs

Let your actions back up what you say!  People should know exactly what you stand for and what you believe by what you do, not what you say!

"The Sky Is The Limit" by Debi Payne of Debi Payne Designs.

No matter what you want, the sky really is the limit.  Anything short of that is a limit that is set only by yourself.

"Tropical Beach" by Debi Payne of Debi Payne Designs

You must believe in yourself.  If you don’t believe in yourself, how can you expect anybody else to believe in you?

My Coloring Book Journey

My journey to getting my first adult coloring book published has been very interesting!  This journey started several months ago when I received a private message from a friend on Facebook telling me (in a nutshell) that I needed to start making coloring pages.  I chucked and said “I don’t think so”, then quickly dismissed the thought.

Closeup with Pencils

Over the next several weeks, three other people sent me messages with videos telling me that I needed to make an adult coloring book.

Then once again, several days later, another Facebook friend sent me a message and another video about adult coloring books.  At this point I had to pause.  I couldn’t help but ask, “why are all these people sending me these videos and telling me that I need to do this”?  This was now  five people telling me that I needed to make coloring books.  Then in my head I heard this snickering voice and the words, “how many times am I going to have to tell you to do this?”  I laughed because I knew that was the voice of God and He was the one telling me to make a coloring book.  At that moment I knew that I had to make a coloring book and it didn’t matter if I wanted to or not.

After I finished laughing, I called my publisher and told her that I was going to make a coloring book.  Much to her delight we talked about the details and she told me what I needed to do.  As soon as we hung up the phone I immediately went to work.

Within a couple of weeks I had everything ready to go.  Drawing the pages for the book and putting them together went really fast and it seemed rather effortless.  The editing and proofing process was by far much more lengthy and difficult.

Open Book with Pencils

There was one point during the proofing process that I was feeling very frustrated and discouraged and thinking, ‘why am I doing this?  I didn’t want to do this in the first place’.  Then, low and behold I get a private message on Facebook from another friend with a video about adult coloring books.  I couldn’t help but laugh!!!  Then I remembered why I was doing this and who was telling me to do it.  That gave me the final push I needed to work through the difficulties and get the book finished.  Within a couple of weeks the book was finished and posted on Amazon.

This has been a fabulous journey.  I didn’t want to make a coloring book.  I still don’t know why I was supposed to make a coloring book.  When I think about it I don’t think that either one of those things are even important.  I think what is important is simply the fact that I did it.  Perhaps I will know the “why” some day.  For now, I am pleased that I listened and I followed God’s direction.

I’m sorry that it took so many people telling me to do something, but for each of my six messengers, thank you for sending me the message.  Had this not been so obvious to me by six totally different and unrelated people telling me to do this, I still would not have made the coloring book.  I also want to thank my publisher Candi with Parker House Publishing for her wonderful expertise and patience in working with me through my frustrations!

I don’t have a clue what is going to happen with this book.  I don’t know if even a single person will buy the book or not.  The important thing is that I did what God wanted me to do.  I guess time will tell me why.

The first book is finished and I am working on the second book, with a third book waiting to be started.

It has been a very interesting journey.  I know that the journey has just begun and I am so excited to see where this journey takes me.

You Do What You Believe In

GrassCloseup

One day I heard somebody say that we only do what we believe in.  When I heard that statement I had to stop and think about it for a minute.

FlowerCloseup

After thinking about it for a just a minute, I realized how true this statement really was.  Many people have dreams of what they want, yet they do nothing to move themselves closer to making that dream to come true.

"What You Believe In" by Debi Payne of Debi Payne Designs

“What You Believe In” by Debi Payne of Debi Payne Designs

By their lack of action they really are saying that to don’t believe in their dream.

What is your dream?  What are doing to make that dream come true?  If you aren’t doing anything, then perhaps it is because you don’t believe in your dream.  If you believe in your dream, then get busy and make it happen.
