Accomplishment Journal

I am all about getting things done and having accomplishments. Every night after I go to bed and before I go to sleep, in my mind I list five things that I am grateful for. Then I list five things that I accomplished that day. And then I think about my goal. Since I started this practice I have noticed how much more I accomplish every day.

Granted, most of my accomplishments are small, but it seems as though the bigger accomplishments are getting bigger and they are happening much more frequently. To me this just proves the point the more you focus and think about something, the more you will have it in your life.

This was the premise behind creating my new “Accomplishment Journal”. I wanted to find a way to help other people have more accomplishments in their lives.

The “Accomplishment Journal” consist of 12 monthly 2-page spreads with a small box for each day of the month for your to write your daily accomplishment. Each monthly 2-page spread also feature a whimsical design with a motivational phrase in beautiful full color.

Cover&OpenBook

In addition to the 12-monthly, 2-page spreads there are four 2-page sections in the back of the book for you to write your wishes, hopes & dreams, special celebrations, things you are grateful for, and any special thoughts or ideas you have during the year.

Here is a video that shows each of the pages.

When I first designed the book I was afraid that the boxes might be too small, however, since my intent was to write just a brief statement about one thing that you had accomplished that day they turned out to be the perfect size. It wasn’t designed to write a list of everything you did that day along with all your thoughts and feelings. It was meant to be just a brief statement.

I wanted to make a sample month to show how it could be completed. I thought it would be fun to put in what other people had accomplished. So, I went onto Facebook and I asked everybody to tell me what they had accomplished the day before. Then I wrote their answers in the boxes.

OpenBook

As you can see, the boxes were large enough. Granted I probably write smaller than others, which showed me that you can write larger and have plenty of room. Or you do like I did and take advantage of the empty space to draw a little doodle.

Here are some close-up photos of the daily boxes with text and a little doodle.

Regardless of whether or not you write large or you write small and add doodles, the point is to write down at least one accomplishment every day.

I have kept journals like this for the past 2 years and it is some much fun to go back and look at them from time to time. I know with regular journals, I will write in them and then never look at them again. But these journals are different for me! I find myself frequently going back to my books to see when I did this or that. Then on top of that, it is a pretty book and that makes it even more fun to keep up with it!

Start your journal on January 1st and write in it all though the year. Then at the end of the year you will see the treasure of accomplishments you have had throughout the year.

Every Day

Detail Close Up #1

We have all had what seems to be a bad day. One of those days that seem to last forever. One of those days that seem to never end.

Detail Close Up #2

Actually our days are never filled with bad things or good things. Our days are simply made up of ‘things’. How we perceive these ‘things’ will determine if they are bad or good.

Even if our day is filled with things that we perceive as bad, there is always something good in that day. We just have to allow ourselves to see the good.

Next time you are having what you perceive to be a “bad” day, take a minute to find something good. I promise, it is there, you just have to take the time to see. When you do, celebrate the good and the bad want see so bad!

Define Your History

Detail Close Up #1

One of the things that I think about a lot is, “what am I leaving behind?” By this I mean, when I am dead and gone what have I done in my life time will remain in this world once I am gone.

Once I was asked what I wanted to do with my life. My answer was, “I want to create something that when I die little pieces of me will be left all over the world.” That is exactly what I am doing with my art!

Detail Close Up #2

When I am gone from this Earth, people will still have my art. They will still have my stories. Every day I am writing my own history.

“Define Your History” by Debi Payne Designs

We all have a history. We all have the same opportunity to write our own history. Either we can write our history while we are alive or we can let other people write our history after we are gone.

Personally, I prefer to tell my own story rather giving somebody else the opportunity to tell their version of my story.

What are you doing to define or tell your history?

Drama All Around

Detail Close Up #1

I must admit, I don’t like drama! What strikes me funny is how many people say that they don’t like drama, but they are the ones in the middle of it and stirring it up.

Detail Close Up #2

I have gone to a movie, paid for a ticket, went in, sat down and started watching the movie. I didn’t like the movie, so I got up and walked out. I am the same way when it comes to drama.

When drama is all around me… I leave! You can leave too!!! You really do not have to participate in the drama around you. Next time drama is all around you, walk away!

Biggest Obstacles

Detail Close Up #1

We all go through times when life presents us with a new opportunity or challenge and our minds immediately start playing out all of the “what if” scenarios. ‘What is the bad thing happens?’ Or ‘What if that problem occurs?’

Detail Close Up #2

We have all done this. The trick is to be able to stop your mind for all the negative thoughts and turn them to positive thoughts. If you start turn those negative “what if’s” to positive “what if’s” you might find the possibilities of success are far greater than the possibilities of failure.

Don’t Tell Me

Detail Close Up #1

Have you ever told somebody that you wanted to do something only to have them give you the long list of all these reasons you shouldn’t? They can tell you every worst case scenario as if it is based on fact and there is no other option.

Detail Close Up #2

I call these people “dream stealers”. Dream stealers like to tell other people how to live their lives based on how they perceive life and the world.

Just because those people can’t perceive anything beyond their believe system doesn’t mean that you have to too.

Don’t tell me that the sky is the limit when there are footprints on the moon!

Bazillion Chances

Detail Close Up #1

How many times have you said, “if I just had a chance….”? Chances are, you have said it many times. We all have!

Detail Close Up #2

Let’s say you decide you would like to have a cupcake. So you go to a bakery. You first look at all the beautiful cupcakes on display. The clerk ask you if they can help you. You tell the clerk that you would like to have a strawberry cupcake. The clerk tells you that they are out of strawberry cupcakes. Now, do you choose a different flavor or do you just leave without any cupcake?

"Bazillion Chances" by Debi Payne Designs

Life is kind of like a bakery. Just because the life doesn’t offer you strawberry, it still have lots of other choices. All you have to do is pick a different flavor. Chances or it will be just as good. Sometimes you just might find that it is even better! The important thing is to choose! Which is also sometimes the most difficult thing to do.

Color Your Year

"Color Your Year" Coloring Book and Calendar by Debi Payne Designs

“Color Your Year” Coloring Book and Calendar by Debi Payne Designs

I am so loving this new coloring book/calendar!!!! I am very excited about this latest product produced by Debi Payne Designs!!! It is a coloring book AND monthly calendar.

This is a monthly calendar where you can color each monthly page. After you have colored each page, you can hang it on the wall and each month you can enjoy the page that you have colored.

The book is wire spiral bound and printed on heavy weight glossy paper. (More about that in a minute.) The calendar is available in three different sizes: Small – 7″ x 11″ (with the coloring design 7″ x 5-1/2″) Standard – 11″ x 17″ (with the coloring design 11″ x 8-1/2″) and Huge – 14-1/4″ x 22″ (with the coloring design 14-1/2″ x 11″).

All Pages #2 - Blog

Each month has its own design for you to color. The designs include doodle flowers, whimsical shapes and repeating patterns.

February

The paper is a heavy weight cardstock with a glossy finish. This paper is great! You can use markers and gel pens without any bleed through. Even using Sharpie pens, I did not have any bleed through.

The glossy finish give the markers a bright shiny finish! I am really loving that!

A word of caution: If you use gel pens you will need to allow for really long drying times! If you use gel pens, you have to allow for that long drying time because if you don’t the ink will easily smear, (ask me how I know) and if you touch it you get ink all over your hand and or fingers, (ask me how I know).

The medium that didn’t really work was coloring pencils. With the slick glossy surface, color pencils don’t have anything to grip and they don’t really work.

Close Up #1

The Sharpies had a smooth glide when coloring, but with some of the colors, when you stop and lift your pen it “puddles” leaving a darker dot. This can be easily avoided by keeping your pen moving and stopping the pen in a corner where the dot will not be noticed. However, the “puddling” doesn’t happen with all colors. (I don’t know why!)

This is a great calendar that you can enjoy all year! You will want to order you calendar as soon as possible so you can have your calendar finished by the end of year and ready to enjoy all next year!

My Coloring Book Journey

My journey to getting my first adult coloring book published has been very interesting!  This journey started several months ago when I received a private message from a friend on Facebook telling me (in a nutshell) that I needed to start making coloring pages.  I chucked and said “I don’t think so”, then quickly dismissed the thought.

Closeup with Pencils

Over the next several weeks, three other people sent me messages with videos telling me that I needed to make an adult coloring book.

Then once again, several days later, another Facebook friend sent me a message and another video about adult coloring books.  At this point I had to pause.  I couldn’t help but ask, “why are all these people sending me these videos and telling me that I need to do this”?  This was now  five people telling me that I needed to make coloring books.  Then in my head I heard this snickering voice and the words, “how many times am I going to have to tell you to do this?”  I laughed because I knew that was the voice of God and He was the one telling me to make a coloring book.  At that moment I knew that I had to make a coloring book and it didn’t matter if I wanted to or not.

After I finished laughing, I called my publisher and told her that I was going to make a coloring book.  Much to her delight we talked about the details and she told me what I needed to do.  As soon as we hung up the phone I immediately went to work.

Within a couple of weeks I had everything ready to go.  Drawing the pages for the book and putting them together went really fast and it seemed rather effortless.  The editing and proofing process was by far much more lengthy and difficult.

Open Book with Pencils

There was one point during the proofing process that I was feeling very frustrated and discouraged and thinking, ‘why am I doing this?  I didn’t want to do this in the first place’.  Then, low and behold I get a private message on Facebook from another friend with a video about adult coloring books.  I couldn’t help but laugh!!!  Then I remembered why I was doing this and who was telling me to do it.  That gave me the final push I needed to work through the difficulties and get the book finished.  Within a couple of weeks the book was finished and posted on Amazon.

This has been a fabulous journey.  I didn’t want to make a coloring book.  I still don’t know why I was supposed to make a coloring book.  When I think about it I don’t think that either one of those things are even important.  I think what is important is simply the fact that I did it.  Perhaps I will know the “why” some day.  For now, I am pleased that I listened and I followed God’s direction.

I’m sorry that it took so many people telling me to do something, but for each of my six messengers, thank you for sending me the message.  Had this not been so obvious to me by six totally different and unrelated people telling me to do this, I still would not have made the coloring book.  I also want to thank my publisher Candi with Parker House Publishing for her wonderful expertise and patience in working with me through my frustrations!

I don’t have a clue what is going to happen with this book.  I don’t know if even a single person will buy the book or not.  The important thing is that I did what God wanted me to do.  I guess time will tell me why.

The first book is finished and I am working on the second book, with a third book waiting to be started.

It has been a very interesting journey.  I know that the journey has just begun and I am so excited to see where this journey takes me.
