How many times do you find yourself feeling like you are unimportant? Perhaps it is at work where you are feeling that the things you do don’t really matter. Or maybe when you are around your friends you feel more like a tag-a-long. For some, they may feel unimportant when they are at home. I know that many people say that they don’t vote in elections because their vote really doesn’t matter.
Well guess what? You ARE important and you REALLY do matter!
At work you are important! For starters if you weren’t important, you wouldn’t be getting a paycheck. Aside from that, the work that you are doing may not seem insignificant and not important to you, but if you weren’t there, someone else would have to do what you are doing making their job even more difficult.
You may feel like a tag-a-long when you are with your friends, but if they didn’t want you around, chances are you wouldn’t be there. So, you do matter and your friendship is important to them.
At home, every person matters! If you feel like you are not feeling important at home, you really need to stop and re-think your value.
As for voting, why do you think politicians spend so much time, money and effort trying to get every SINGLE vote they can? Because every vote – including yours – really does matter!
Now for the good news! Feeling unimportant or feeling like you don’t matter all boils down to just one simple thing – it is just a feeling! And what is the one thing that you are in total control of? Your feelings!
You don’t like feeling unimportant? Of course, you don’t! Nobody likes feeling unimportant. So, why not change the way you feel! You think that the task you do at work feels menial and unimportant? Start thinking of yourself as the best doer of that task your employer has ever had. If you can’t feel that way right now, make it goal to become the best doer of that task. In your mind, make it a really big deal and be proud of the work you are doing.
You Are What You Think
If you are “thinking” that you are unimportant then of course you are going to “feel” unimportant! So, it only stands to reason that you are going to need to change your thinking in order to change the way you feel.
There have been many times in my life that I have felt unimportant. I don’t think there is anybody that hasn’t felt that way at one time or another. Thankfully those times happen for me less now than in the past.
For a really long time I thought that I needed my circumstances to change, or that I needed someone else to change in order for me to feel important. Eventually I learned that circumstances and other people changing wasn’t at all what I needed. I finally learned that the only thing that I needed to change was my thinking! Then once I changed the way that I was thinking, the way I felt automatically changed as well.
Once I started seeing myself and the things that I did as really important, I too felt really important. I didn’t wait for my circumstances to change and I certainly didn’t wait for somebody else to tell me that I was important. I did it all myself and you can do it too!
